Rock Climbing: Anyone can enjoy the sport of rock climbing, no matter the age, athletic ability, or experience level. It’s safe, fun, rewarding and memorable. Mai Chau Lodge has worked in tangent with Slo Pony Adventures, who specializes in offering the most comprehensive services for rock climbing in Vietnam, to design the programs in Mai Chau. Truly experience the beauty of Mai Chau valley by physically connecting with it. Climbing on these exotic rock formations will surely be one of the most memorable experiences etched into your life’s journey forever … something you too, will talk about and cherish for the rest of your life.
Kayaking: Take a guided tour out on the gorgeous Hoa Binh Reservoir, the largest man made reservoir in Vietnam. It’s the experience of a lifetime as you paddle beneath the rolling karst mountains, thru the lush evergreen forest and local tribal villages. Nature and humanity mingle and calm just like the surface of the water you paddle upon.
Walking Ethnic Tour: Enjoy experiencing new cultures? Then take journey with our local guides to the White Thai village. Watch as the village people tend to their rice fields, planting and harvesting their crops, or as the village women weave beautiful silk scarves or tend to their silk worms. Take a look at the local wares something is bound to catch your interest; from crossbows to bags, rice wine to small cafes.
Cycling: A great way to travel in Vietnam’s Mai Chau is by bicycle. Take a guided tour to scope out the trails around Mai Chau. It’s not only a great way to exercise but excellent for sight-seeing. Take in the rolling, majestic beauty of the karst mountains above, the humble organized valley below, and the dense thickets around you. See the stilt houses arranged together in the valley or along with the meandering cattle by the roadside.
Market Tour/ Sunday Market Tour: The open Market Tour is a must see for someone looking for a few good deals or to see people selling their special products like honey, fresh fruits and vegetables, live fish, eels and snails, Vietnamese delicacies, and novelty goods and traditional-style brocade products woven by skilled Thai women. The Sunday market draws an even larger crowd. It’s colorful and the vibrant sights and smell will tickle your senses. Delight your taste buds with traditional authentic Thai foods and even partake of some of the rice wine made in the village.
Traditional Dancing: Be mesmerized by the traditional dances performed by the local villagers. A brief explanation of each dance is given before the start which states what the dance symbolizes in their culture. Listen quietly and watch the magic. The dances are performed around 8:30pm and are a perfect evening entertainment to experience local culture.
Home Stay Trekking: If you wish to get a deeper immersion into the ethnic communities’ lifestyles, we will set you up in a local homestay for one night. We believe that it is important for tourists to have exposure to the local communities to understand how they live from a real life perspective.
Visit Mo Luong (Soldier’s Cave): Climb up the stairs to Mo Luong Bar, across the street from Mai Chau Lodge, maybe even grab a drink on your way through to Mo Loung Cave. The Soldier Cave stretches 500 meters under Mt. Pu Kha and is rich in myths and legends of the local people. The cave itself contains 4 caverns.
Handicraft Tour: Take a tour to Lac Village, a Thai village near Mai Chau where they create and sell beautiful handmade scarves. You will also be instructed on how to weave the traditional White Thai scarves that the White Thai ethnic group is famous for. The lesson lasts 2 hours, with a break to drink some freshly brewed tea.
Cooking: Enjoy the fantastic smells and tastes of a traditional Thai dish, and add it to your cookbook. This cooking class is a great way to expand your knowledge and palette of fine cuisine.
