Weather

In general Mai Chau experiences pretty good weather throughout the year. It rains less and the humidity is lower than other Northern Vietnam cites.

The finest weather of the year extends from September till May and temperatures range from 15°C to 30°C. It can be quite cold during winter from November till end of February. The average temperature is 18°C. The monsoon prevails from June till September with stronger breezes and higher humidity with limited rainfall. Temperatures are warmer during this time, varying between 25°C to 35°C.

Essential clothing and equipments checklist

• Sweater and light coat for winter
• Water-proof jacket during rainy period
• Sunglasses; sunhat; sun cream during summer
• Trekking shoes sleeping bag; torch; backpack; towel, insect repellent; lip balm; a sufficient supply of any medication you are taking for trekking trips; shorts for cycling

Walking Conditions

Our walks and treks are mostly on well-established trails, and there are no particularly difficult sections, although some of the trails are steep and rocky and can be muddy and slippery after rain.

Biking Conditions

Mai Chau Lodge offers a range of both on-road and off-road biking trips to suit various interests and abilities. If you are interested in biking with us please advise us of your height as soon as possible to secure a bike for your size.

Language

As the white Thai ethnic make up the majority of Mai Chau inhabitants, local Thai language is used within family and Thai community. Vietnamese is mainly used in daily conversations. English is not commonly used and you will require one of our guides for your trips in Mai Chau.

Currency and Bank

The national currency of Vietnam is Dong. Most prices are quoted in Vietnam Dongs but US Dollars are widely accepted. There is a local bank with limited services, you can not use your ATM here and Mai Chau Lodge is the only place that accepts payment by Visa card and Master card.

Dining

Being a remote hill tribe valley, there are limited choices for dining. Mai Chau Lodge is the only place offering quality local and international cuisine coupled with great selection of drinks.

Internet

Internet service is available at Mai Chau Lodge. You can also get connected to the world by looking into some small shops in Mai Chau Town.

Power and water

Electrical current in Mai Chau is 220 volts. Power cut can be quite regular. Water in Mai Chau is mostly from the well and you are advised to drink bottled water.
